We return to Community Corner today and this time we have quite the room with a view!
Jaw-dropping visuals and amazing aesthetics are the main talking points today, as we sit down with X_DISARMED_PR0_X and talk with him about his incredible iCandy creations, his introduction to LittleBigPlanet and what inspires him when building these incredible scenes.
Hello! Your name may be familiar to some but please do take a moment to introduce yourself for anybody reading that may be unfamilar with your creations!
Hey! You probably know me as X_DISARMED_PR0_X and for my visual achievements on LittleBigPlanet such as the UNCHARTED 4: A Thief's End Trailer Remake and LittleBigPlanet: Pushing The Engine videos, but for those of you who don’t know me, I’m a multimedia creator who mostly dabbles in visual arts and music!
I’ve always loved to push for more than deemed achievable, LittleBigPlanet allows me to share that ambition with a huge audience of aspiring creators and I’m really moved to hear other creators say that I inspire and amaze them with my work!
How long have you been playing LittleBigPlanet?
I’ve been with LittleBigPlanet for the whole journey from the very beginning of the original LittleBigPlanet’s launch! I began playing LittleBigPlanet back when I was around 11 in 2008.
Funnily enough when I first saw the game packaged with my PlayStation 3, I remembered being quite upset about it since I wanted a particular shooter game, you will know which one; and little did I know that I would become a dedicated and well-known creator on it! Who would of thought?!
What are your favourite things about creating in LittleBigPlanet?
The ease of creating anything so easily, absolutely without a doubt. It speaks for itself but Media Molecule truly have set the bar very, VERY high when it comes to a user-generated content game with tools that take little to no experience to create with!
It’s almost jarring to think that most things like logic, music, art, designing, etc… Could be simplified so well into one package!
Yes! This really is a screenshot from LittleBigPlanet 3!
What inspired you to dive into Create Mode?
I just wanted to mess around. Mind you, slowly after I learned how to put a block down I gained this very cocky mindset of believing that I would be able to pump out something like steve_big_guns after a few goes in Create...
So I kept going at it until I started doing my own stuff out of curiosity as opposed to being “the best creator”, but all the time that I spent improving my creation skills definitely paid off in the long run!
I was happy for the change in approach though, I learned that doing what you love works better than trying to compete with others!
You’re more well-known for your “iCandy” creations but can you tell us a little about the first level that you created?
Oh wow, my first level?! Hmmm… Well, the very first level that I ever created...
OH! Okay so haha, when I first started creating a level, I had this HUGE obsession with inFamous, the original one, I remember that I bought the DLC with the Cole costume and thought “I kinda want an inFamous based area or scene to run around in”.
So sure enough I actually created… Or at least for the most part attempted to… Create the prologue scene from the game, it’s still visible today on my old PSN ID, infamouspowerred .
Sometimes I like to go back and play it to remind me of just how far that I’ve come with my craft!
We're serious! This is definitely from LittleBigPlanet 3!
Do you have any favourite scenes amongst your creations? What is it about them that you like?
My favourite visual project as of now is my Pushing the Engine video that I released in 2017, the response to it was amazing and it showcases a LOT of my work in motion on the game itself!
Some creators have actually expressed publicly that the video reminded them of their most precious memories, friendships and achievements on LittleBigPlanet and that alone made all the work I’ve ever done until now worth it.
Do you have a favourite type of level that you like to play in LittleBigPlanet?
I hardly play many levels since I spend most of my time creating them, but I guess if I had to choose a favourite type of level, I would say the 4-player mini-game ones like RanSack.
Anything with a heavy emphasis on VERSUS since it’s such a blast with friends!
For myself, I absolutely love going around and listening to other creators’ music in their music galleries.
You see... There's Sackboy! We told you that these screenshots are from LittleBigPlanet 3!
Do you draw many inspirations from outside LittleBigPlanet when creating your scenes?
It’s half and half. Nature-based scenery or city-styled scenery, I can create without reference since I’m very used to both settings.
But for scenes based on video games and other works, I would definitely pull up a picture that catches my attention to compare and see how well I can pinpoint the details, scale, and tone!
For the most part though, I freeform off what direction I’m going and off the noggin’!
Are there any creators or levels that have inspired you to create that you would like to talk about?
Without a doubt, I need to recommend to anyone who hasn’t seen this dude ‘s work, you need to check out rothniel.
This guy... Haha! Oh man! THIS GUY, he’s been pretty much one of the backing forces for the development of the HONOR levels, and his own works in the game are definitely ground-breaking!
There’s also this other scenic creator named Chris_Redwalker6, his scenic levels are incredible!
This looks like Da Vinci's Workshop in a gritty reboot of LittleBigPlanet 2...
Are you a creative person outside of LittleBigPlanet? What do you create outside of the game?
I’m actually a Music Producer and Teacher whenever I’m not on LittleBigPlanet!
Previously I used to create all of my music in the game, which I currently have over 150 tracks on!
But when I started trying to push for the more advanced stuff, I began using a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) called FL STUDIO and from that time I started until now, I’ve managed to work in a studio helping other artists and talents, meet other amazing artists who are actually also familiar with and are from LittleBigPlanet, and most recently been distributed to stations like BBC Radio 1 with other things like Spotify and Apple Music!
All of this started just from a simple music sequencer on LittleBigPlanet 2, it’s amazing how the game turns hard to reach concepts into an easy to accomplish reality!
Never did I think that I would ever make music and I owe it all to LittleBigPlanet for igniting my passion; music is something I can’t live without and I love it.
I also draw and do other little creative things here and there but for the most part I’m heavily-focused with music.
And it’s all thanks to LittleBigPlanet and the community for giving me the interest I have with music production!
The attention to detail in each of X_DISARMED_PR0_X's scenes is absolutely immaculate!
Do you have any upcoming creations or projects that wish to share with us now?
Not anything at the moment that I can share with complete confidence. I’m working out some ideas with some great minds until I can find something that I can be completely satisfied with
It may take quite a while but all great things come with time and I’ll be more than ready to share it with the LittleBigPlanet community when I’m ready!
All of these amazing scenes were created with a PlayStation 4 and LittleBigPlanet 3.
X_DISARMED_PR0_X has created so many more scenes than we could ever possibly fit into a single article but you can check out even more of his amazing work on his LittleBigPlanet 3 - Detailed Scenery Archive Gallery and you can catch up with his recent activities and creations on Twitter at @DISARMEDTWEETS!
