LBPC PSP Creator Spotlight - Jeffcu28

Jeffcu28 Art can take many forms. It can be a beautiful painting, a thought-provoking sculpture, or a moving composition of music. It's not often one thinks of video games when the word "art" is brought up, even less so when it comes to handheld games. Enter Jeffcu28 : Calm, collected, well-spoken, and absolutely determined to change the world's mind about what form an artist's canvas might take. Since the release of LittleBigPlanet PSP in November 2009, Jeffcu28 has treated us to some of the most incredible and varied levels we could possibly imagine. We've bounded across giant flowers, watched a level being painted right before our little button eyes, and experienced the vengeful sadness of a love story gone terribly...

Kindred - A PSP Community Project

AceCreator , the official Sack Spokesperson for LBP PSP delivered this message about kindred he wished to pass along to you all... We can honestly say that we didn't see this coming; 'a collaborative project that introduces a brand new story level series to the PSP community.' Fantastic! Well, a project of this kind of scope and ambition deserves recognition, and is to be applauded. The very professional publicity image had already caught our eye here at Cambridge (nice work, dajdaj03), so we were intrigued, along with everyone else. That's quite a team you guys have assembled there: amazingflyingpoo , Arrestor/ Maboe84 , BlueBulletBill , CyberSora , Domick12 , Fastbro , jeffcu28 , Lleonard Pler/ Lleonard , salieri/ SalieriAAX ,...

Important news regarding the release date of LittleBigPlanet™2

We know this will come as disappointing news for all you LittleBigPlanet fans, and believe us, we are disappointed too. We are a tight-knit team and we take enormous pride in our work, so to raise the bar we’ve set with the original LittleBigPlanet, a game that has been so embraced by all, we’ve agreed to allow ourselves a bit more time to deliver the experience that our great fans and community deserve. We are truly sorry, but hope you understand that we have to build the best possible game, as it is the foundation of our community. On the upside, we are going to find a way to give more of you a taste of LBP2 prior to launch,...

LBPC Creator Spotlights: Teebonsey, Jump_Button and Poms

Teebonesey If you could list your favorite thing about LittleBigPlanet, what would it be? My favorite thing is twofold - First is the ability to prize your brain open like a dusty old crate and let loose the wild beasties within in an unheard-of capacity. The second is the ability to actually experience in a strange way the untamed insides of so many other peoples' brains. Part of that experience is how the "LBP level" is its own medium and we've been able to explore it, to innovate with it, to invent with it. It's a microcosm of every major new art form. We are the first filmmakers, the first recorders of music, the first photographers, all in the shoebox...

LittleBigStore: Solstice Costume

The Solstice is when the tilt of the earth's axis will mean the northern hemisphere is the closest to the sun that it will get all year, making it hotter, making it summer time! In ancient times, hundreds of years before the dawn of history, a strange race of people called the Druids celebrated the when the sun was at its strongest - at midday on the Solstice - by performing mystical rites and combing their beards. We too shall celebrate the Solstice, by once again releasing this free costume, and once again re-using an old joke about just how long their beards are... Download the costume for free on the store this week!

LittleBigPlanet Community Game Jam

LittleBigPlanet Central has a full lowdown of the event , written by the very people who attended, well worth a read if you want to hear first hand about how all the new tools come together, and how they can be used to build your own games…. The first hour or so was chaos. Straight up. We literally didn't know where to begin. The vast selection of new tools, features, and options left us all flying off in different directions. Some of us messed with the circuit boards, some of us made little contraptions, while others explored the new materials, objects, stickers, and decorations to be used in LBP2. Others played with sackbots and switches and gravity controls. Meanwhile, the...

‘Turbo! Pack’ Development Diary 12: ‘Plane Stupid’

As with all the other vehicles we designed what the jump jet looked like before we designed the level, because its capabilities really defined what sort of gameplay we could use. This one took a little more thought than most of the others however. The first major decision we made was to build the jet from a front-on perspective, whereas all the other vehicles (barring the pogostick) are portrayed from the side. This was because it had to be very balanced in order to have as much control over flight as possible – the solution to this was to make it symmetrical, and enclose Sackboy in a small space so that his weight wouldn’t upset the balance as he moved...

‘Turbo! Pack’ Development Diary 11: ‘Plane Stupid’

And another thing: the trouble with something as big as the jump jet being made to move at any speed greater than ‘quite slow’ is that you can’t see where you’re going. With the tank, for example, you can point the camera in front of it, and as long as Sackboy’s on-screen, everything’s fine. But the tank only needs to move forwards in its levels; the jet has to be able to go forwards, backwards, up, down, in fact it’s more than four directions because you can go diagonally as well. The point is, I cracked it. The jet has a variable counter thrust when the player lets go of a control, making it stop quickly, so that you don’t...

‘Turbo! Pack’ Development Diary 10: ‘Tanks a Lot’

As previously mentioned, the military levels see the introduction of not one, not two, but eight (yes really!) different toy soldiers. Well ok, four different ones, in two different colours. We really love these little guys. In fact, we love them so much we stuck brains on them so that we could blow them up. Ka-boom indeed! Whilst previous levels have been wholly based around using the vehicles, this level sets you loose to explore more on foot. Did you ever get a shiny new toy, and have more fun building a fort out of the box? We certainly did, and this “homemade” aspect was largely our inspiration for this level. The style is quite simple but very strong and...

‘Turbo! Pack’ Development Diary 9: ‘Tanks a Lot’

We found that you can have fun emitting bridge sections while swinging the bridge emitting arm around. We also found that the bridge sections can get in the way, and that you can just emit lots on one gap to easily bridge it, so we limited number of bridge sections that can be emitted to one at a time. The tank was good fun, but we decided that what we also wanted something that actually fires missiles. Technically (here comes the science bit), the tank fires projectiles, which aren’t self propelled, and we want missiles, that zoom towards their target rather than arcing towards them like a grenade (okay, not very scientific). Making these guys actually go in the right...
